Renaissance Pleasure Faire Reunion at Paramount Ranch March 22, 2015
Who remembers the Renaissance Pleasure Faire? Back in 1966, one of the countries original, simulating the life and times in England during the reign of Elizabeth, was held in Paramount Ranch in
Agoura.
Kind of like a Medieval Times meets Woodstock, the faire attracted families and hippies alike. I remember my parents taking me to the fair to see the cast of characters dressed like Vikings, pirates, kings and queens, centaurs and drunkards. There was the macabe gallows scene and the drench-a-wrench, to magic acts, to a jousting event. The patrons as well as the players were dressed in their bohemian best.
I remember clear as day buying half of a lemon slurped through a peppermint straw. That was almost 50 years ago.
Yesterday, some of the original cast of players met at Paramount ranch for some nostalgic revelry.

Do firework displays have a negative affect on wildlife in rural neighborhoods?

My sympathetic nervous system was rapid firing. As the loud pop pop pop continued... fear set in. My dog was shaking, ducking for cover. Could it really be someone firing an automatic weapon outside?

No - just fireworks at the High School: http://www.agourahighschool.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=900:bulletin-31715&catid=104&Itemid=1476

Do fireworks affect wildlife? Of course they do - no grant funded study is required for me to know.

Are they dangerous to horses? Ask any veterinarian.

So why are fireworks allowed at Agoura High?
Is there no permit required for a fireworks display? And why would one be issued
to detonate explosives this close to open space, wildlife habitat, and horse barns?

The City of Agoura Hills Planning Departments stated purpose:

The Department is responsible for evaluating and making recommendations on regional issues, such as traffic, housing, air quality, open space preservation and land use planning, which require regional solutions to protect and promote the quality of life in the Conejo Valley and Las Virgenes Canyon areas. Over one-third of the City's land area is designated for open space. The abundance of open space in and around the City make Agoura Hills unique. The Department is responsible for planning and implementing programs to enhance and maintain the open space in Agoura Hills.
