Agoura Horse Property - Custom & Equestrian Real Estate by Nona Green

Meet Nona

Licensed as a real estate broker and practicing full time as an Agoura Hills Realtor since 1978, I have been specializing in custom, rural and equestrian properties for the last 20 years. In 1990, I decided that I wanted to follow my childhood love of horses to Agoura Hills. After purchasing a home in Liberty Canyon, I adopted a handsome descendant of famed Poco Bueno. His name was ‘Slick’. Slick and I earned our gymkhana ribbons in pole-bending and barrel racing.

With regard to real estate, I gravitated to a fellow horsewoman, Wanda Smith, who worked in my office in Agoura Hills. Wanda and her husband Bill developed several of the original homesteads in Old Agoura. She was the premier equestrian properties specialist in the Conejo Valley at the time and became my mentor in the world of equestrian real estate. I was a top producing real estate agent before meeting Wanda, but I had much to learn from her about the particulars of rural property.

Fast forward to 2012 and I feel that I have earned the right to call myself an equestrian and custom property specialist. There is no course, certification program or designation that I know of which can be a substitute for the decades of experience I have earned. Years of experience and knowledge have enabled me to be of maximum service to buyers and sellers of equestrian property.

I have lived in Old Agoura since 1990. Over the years I have built and remodeled several homes in the neighborhood. These endeavors have allowed me to be of assistance to my clients and peers who need help with construction issues particular to custom, rural and equestrian property in the area. Oak tree ordinances, septic systems, setbacks, encroachments, easements, flood hazards, non-permitted improvements, flag lots, agricultural zoning, lot line adjustments, gray water, rodents, wildlife corridor, horses and other livestock, arena footing, drainage, fuel modification, brush clearance, lot coverage, second dwellings, accessory structures, lack of comparable sales for appraisers.... just a partial list of the issues that typically arise in a custom, rural property transaction. Just as someone who needs a new knee would not let an eye doctor perform knee surgery, someone who wants to buy or sell custom or equestrian property would be ill-advised to hire someone with little experience in that area.

I still have horses and ride every other day. These days I love dressage and trail riding. My favorite vacations are camping in the Sierra's with my dogs and horses. I regularly volunteer in the community and have received awards from the City of Agoura Hills for my service, which includes assisting with the creation of the Old Agoura Equestrian Park and sponsoring the many horse shows held there. The horse world is rather small. I like to network with my fellow equestrians: sharing a truckload of hay, seeing who might need a new ranch property or a place to board or the name of a good veterinarian. My connections in the horse world overlap with my chosen real estate specialty.

I want to emphasize that one does not need to like horses to want to live in an equestrian neighborhood. These areas cater to those who just love the rural lifestyle too, ‘No Horses Required’. Pastoral views, privacy, trees, creeks, wildlife, starry nights, room to play and grow things, hiking, biking, walking.... these things and more are what we offer. I will be your guide. Please peruse this site for more insight, or better yet... call me today.

Happy Trails.
